Finally got around to doing some Fullmetal Alchemist fanart ^^ I've had this idea stuck in my head for ages – Lust as both her past and present selves blending together.
Please let me know if there are any parts of the picture that need improvement, and any suggestions for my art style in general will also be appreciated. I'd like to know whether there are any particular areas I need to work on (eg: more realistic; more stylised; better anatomy; more painterly/textured feel, etc.) Thank you
Edit: I've made some changes, based on the critiques I received. Thank you so much to everyone who gave feedback – I like the image a lot more now
This is fricking fantstic, i love the stillness of it, like your waiting for the dramatic scene to kick in. The tones are amazing. A favourtie for sure!!
Hmm... I dont know much about Fullmetal Alchemist but I think _some_ of the gunshots/bullets should be a lil smaller. Right now they're taking an awfully great deal of the focus in the image in my opinion.
Also theres a lot of difference between the quality of the background and the Lady. The background itself is absolutely fabelous but the chestpart of the lady doesnt quite fit in there in my opinion... theres something thats not quite right there but I cant point my finger at it sorry.. (tried covering up the chestpart and it looked right to me ^^"; )
Anyhow, really fantastic background I must say. Specially on the skies on the right side which im totally in love with. :3 Keep it up!
I only saw FMA a few times while in Japan, but damn, was Lust a cool villianess. And this painting just blows me away! Bullets to birds, and the transition of the weather and landscape int he background... combined with Lust herself. Just gorgeous. Be proud, you definetly deserve to be.
I think ur anatomy's grat and MAN WHAT A WICKED PICTUUURE!!! XD I really like it, but if u wanted to, try out putting more hard out lighting in it. like the highlights she has on her back, put em in her hair and shoulder, make some darks darker and you might get a different feel, jus play round,
But I think it's a really nice image, funky idea!
I really admire your coloring and painting style...the setup and detail of this is really lovely. I like the look on her face and the softness of her hair. The contrast the dove wings make with the dark colors looks beautiful. Her breast seems a little flat, it needs to be shaded underneath and highlighted over the top to give it a bit more depth. I like the different depth shots of the bullets, but it's a little uncomfortably monotononous to have them all completely straight like that. Some angled bullets wouldn't be out of place here, either up or down or towards or away from the view. You did the mountains and the lighting from the sky extremely well. It looks beautifully realistic.
I adore the background - the progression is really wonderful (especially that sky, omg). Your cool color palette is particularly beautiful.
I feel like her chest could use a little refining because it slopes in almost an unnaturally straight path before the breasts. You might consider making the birds look more realistic (the one that's second to the bottom, for example, has no feet).
as for style, that's really your call as an artist. i really like the feel of this piece, and it's hard for me to suggest any style in particular for you to focus on.
